Oregon Women Indoor Season Preview

2009 was the last time Oregon did not win the NCAA women's Indoor title and that year the men won the title. Last year it took the 4x400 relay for the Oregon women to secure its fifth consecutive title as the men literally ran away with the men's title. Key members of the team that put together the last four NCAA women's titles are gone (Laura Roesler and Phyllis Francis both won titles and were relay members). Replacing them is a young and inexperienced group of freshmen and transfers. Returning members from Oregon were responsible for 11 points and 1 member contributed to each of the winning 4x400 and sixth place distance medley relays.

Junior Jenna Prandini was seventh in the 60m (7.32) indoors last year but by the end of the season she was the high scorer at the NCAA outdoor meet after finishing 1st in the long jump (21-6), 2nd in the 200 (22.63) and 3rd in the 100 (11.42). Her success outdoors is likely to translate into big marks indoors and she is the favorite to score well in the 60m and 200m and will likely be the favorite in the long jump or challenged by sophomore teammate Jasmine Todd. Todd had a spectacular indoor season with a third place finish in the 60m (7.16) and a sixth place finish in the long jump. Injuries forced her to miss the NCAA outdoor meet which may have been the difference for Oregon winning outdoors as 3-time a-a junior Annie Leblanc has also struggled to develop due to injuries.

Sophomores Sasha Wallace ('14 NCAA indoor 60H finalist) and Brittany Mann (7th at NCAA outdoor shot put), and senior weight/hammer thrower Jillian Weir (6th at 2014 NCAA meet) show strong potential for continued development as well does 3-time senior all-American transfer Lindsay Crevoiserat (slowed by injuries) and redshirt junior and NCAA indoor 5K all-American Molly Grabill.

Newcomers and former high school champions and high school record holders Waverly Neer and Brianna Nerud (high school 3K steeple record) have joined the Ducks as junior transfers. Unfortunately newcomers Neer (2010 US Junior 3k champion) and Nike cross nationals champion (frosh) Sarah Baxter came to Oregon injured and were limited (Neer) or had to redshirt (Baxter) during the cross country season. World junior competitors and freshmen Ariana Washington (sprints), Ashlee Moore (combined events), and Raevyn Rogers (800 and relay) will likely make immediate impacts on the NCAA level and could contribute significant points.

Several other athletes are developing or should make major contributions to fill the hole of 33 lost team points. The sophomore class is deep as Christian Brennan helped the 4x400 relay win last year, Frida Berge was the Oregon #1 at Pac-12 X-C, World Junior 5k competitor Maggie Schmaedick, NCAA Oregon #1 XC runner Alli Cash, opening leg of NCAA runner-up 4x100 team Marybeth Sant, and the hoped for return of transfer and 2013 NCAA competitor Julia Zrinyi. Transfer senior Katie Porada and senior jumpers/combined events Lauren Crockett and Chancey Summers have been on the verge of scoring at the NCAA meet in the high jump.
